Naming Therapy is the best-selling word-finding app to help people with aphasia and children with special needs practice important naming and description skills.

Designed by a Speech-Language Pathologist for use in the home and clinic, this app features beautiful photos, real voice, and full customisation with over 700 words included!

***Try it for FREE as part of Language Therapy Lite***
***One of four full apps included in Language Therapy***

This app has 4 parts:
1) Naming Practice: 400+ pictured nouns with an evidence-based cueing hierarchy and optional self-scoring, with the option to add your own photos and cues. The app records which cue was used to get the correct answer and produces a score report for email. Use different cues within Naming Practice to target confrontation naming, responsive naming, phrase completion, repetition, and oral reading.

2) Describe: 580+ pictures with 4-6 semantic & 4 phonemic question prompts for semantic feature analysis, phonological components analysis, and expanding expression skills. You can add your own words and select from 25 prompts to go with them. Icons representing questions prompting for information about the appearance, category, function, shape, size, colour, taste, location and more surround each picture. Target sound knowledge by hearing prompts for first and last sound, rhyming words, and syllables.

3) Naming Test: a set presentation of 30 pictures with scoring and a report. This is a non-standardised test intended for screening a persons ability to name common items. It contains common and less common items of the categories contained in this app. A perfect screener!

4) Flashcards: 700+ clear, full-colour pictures including verbs and adjectives; touch to hear the spoken word or see the printed word with the ability to add your own pictures. Use the verb pictures to create sentences or implement response elaboration training.

Features:
*Real recorded male voice provides a neutral accent in 5 languages with slow, natural speech for easy comprehension
*Limit words by syllable length to just practice the short ones or target the longer ones - perfect for apraxia
*Child-friendly mode turns off references to alcohol and violence and deactivates links to outside sites on the home screen

Pros and cons of Naming Therapy app for iPhone and iPad

Naming Therapy app good for

What an outstanding therapy tool. My adult medical clients are in love with this app. It makes them "Appy" as it is so user-friendly and extremely motivating. My clients just have to simply touch the screen and the magic happens.
This is a fantastic and very practical application! I have not only used it with my adult clients but with children with special needs as well. It has replaced flashcards I would normally use to teach vocabulary and encourage one word utterances. Ive also used the describe section as questions for my fluency clients to answer while practicing their fluency strategies. This app is well worth it!
I have been using this app frequently. Actually daily lately with a Wenickes aphasia patient in the hospital. iPad + Tactus apps = best acute care SLP tools! I also use them all in out patient and home care settings. Worth every penny. Highly recommended to SLPs working with adults. Also for patients/clients to purchase and use for homework practice.
This is one amazing app. it was the first of all the Tactus Therapy apps I have purchased for my husband after his stroke just over a year ago. His speech therapist at the time suggested we look into the app as she had just read a review about its upcoming launch last August 2011. He really was still struggling with naming at the time and I anxiously kept watch for the release. The ease of use for him was awesome ( he was not used to using any technology). I had been using flashcards and picture cards with him, yet there were few that didnt appear child like. With this app his naming has improved so much along with his confidence level. I still occasionally will cue him in our ongoing conversations, however he has come such a long way this past year. He tells people often, especially in his group therapy, how wonderful these apps are and the ease of use with the iPad. In fact we know of a few families that took his advice. I cant thank Tactus Therpy Solutions enough for playing a role in my husbands ongoing reovery.

Some bad moments

This app is an excellent resource for SLPs working with adults with aphasia who want to utilize materials other than paper flash cards! It will also be helpful for patients/families who have an iPhone/iPad and want to continue this app for their home exercise program. Awesome that an SLP is finally creating useful apps for therapy. Keep up the good work!
My wife had a stroke March 2011 and has moderate-severe expressive aphasia. This app is quite good for helping her recover her speech. It is professionally done and is easy to use. The price is reasonable. We use the naming practice which has the option of cueing words by having the user complete a sentence, showing the first letter, spelling the word, describing the word, and sounding the beginning of the word. It has a substantial list of nouns. The user can select one or more categories to work on at the same time. You really cannot get enough professional SLP hours on most insurance. NamingTherapy enables a non-professional to provide additional support for recovery.
This app has proven to be very helpful for multiple children on my caseload who have difficulty using expanded descriptive language. The visual supports are subtle but available when needed. I especially appreciate the functional vocabulary and how it is divided into categories. This is a nicely organized and professionally developed app that Im glad I added to my tool box.
This app has been such an asset to my home-care patients with aphasia! They love the pictures and it is definitely a benefit not to carry around loads of picture cards.
Wow! Now I dont have to lug around dozens of cue cards! Love the interface. One request. Please add more nouns! Thanks!
I used this app in a SNF setting during my internship. I look forward to using it again during my CF. Its so nice to just have an app to carry around instead of worrying about papers! I love the percentage feature to find out and chart any improvement I may observe.
